» NATIONAL PARKS AND WILDLIFE
The roughly triangular Indian sub-continent is more than 3000 kilometers wide in the north and of similar length from the Himalayas to Cape Comorin giving a total land area of nearly 5,000,000 square kilometers. It has three well-defined geographical regions: the Himalayan, the Alluvial Indo-Gangetic plain and the southern tableland of the Deccan. Each differs widely in appearance, languages and traditions.

The wildlife of the Indian Sub-continent, like the vegetation, emphasizes diversity of species throughout the differing habitats and climatic zones that are available. There are some 365 species of different mammals, about 1200 species of birds, more than 400 species of reptiles and about 180 different kinds of amphibians.

» SASNAGIR NATIONAL PARK
Situated in the Saurashtra peninsula of Gujrat, Gir National Park Covers a core area of 259 square kilometers and was established as a park in 1965. Originally protected by Junagadh State, the area is comprised of mixed deciduous forest and grassland with low, rolling hills and meandering rivers. The monsoon brings little rain and much of the area is dry which makes for excellent game viewing. It remains the only home of the Asiatic Lion, now a highly protected species. There is an abundance of other wildlife to be seen and lion sightings are possible. The park is open from the end of October to June.
